Bogotá Boom (compiled by Detlef Diederichsen)
Sat 03.12.2011 | 20:00 h | Admission: 10 €/8 € Tickets online...

With: Los Trasantlanticos, Meridian Brothers, Papaya Republik, DJ Tio Changó

Colombia’s musical diversity comes together in the capital Bogotá, blending and clashing styles from the Atlantic to the Pacific coasts, Vallenato and Cumbia, Gaita and Salsa, Rock and Hip Hop. What’s new is the willingness to experiment, the desire to try out the impossible, and, above all, to make it danceable.

The Berlin-Bogotà connection of Los Transatlanticos brings concert halls to the boil with its heavy Hammond organ sounds. The Meridian Brothers filter and twist Minimal, Latin Pop and Colombian Afro-Funk from the 1970s in the most subtle ways. Papaya Republik plunder the treasure chests of Colombian musical traditions and enrich them with Funk beats and Hip-Hop bass grooves. DJ Tío Changó, who runs the Berlin-based label Chusma Records, rounds the evening off.
